Garmin nüvi 260W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator

Magellen has been one of the first GPS companies to come out with an Iphone car kit. Dual followed suit and TomTom joined the club later as well. To start with Magellan’s Iphone application is $20 cheaper than TomTom’s navigation software.

For those who are wondering why would you need an Iphone kit? Basically these kits enable your Iphone to serve as a GPS device without adding any additional hardware. SO you don’t need an actual satellite navigation device, all you need is your Ipod and the kit that includes an application software and a dock to hold your iphone.

Magellen’s kit is compatible with Iphone Touch, 3G, and 3GS, basically covering all most of 2^nd and 3^rd generation devices.  The dock can be adjusted as per your needs and it plugs into your car’s 12V lighter plug. While plugged-in it also charges your iphone. The kit attaches to the car’s dashboard as opposed to TomTom’s kit, which attaches to the windshield. This provides extra horizontal adjustment capabilities while you input addresses into the iphone.

Magellan’s kit is available for pre-order on Amazon for $129.99, which makes it $10 more expensive than the TomTom model. The Magellan is scheduled to ship by December 11.

Magellan Premium GPS Car Kit for iPhone and iPod Touch

Royal Caribbean International, world’s largest cruise liner has introduced a GPS based tag to keep track of kids on board.  This is the first time GPS technology has been used in such fashion. The tagging system has been introduced to keep an eye on 3-11 year old kids on board.

This is no co-incidence that the tagging system comes at the time when Royal Caribbean launched Oasis of the Seas- largest cruise ship of all times. So there is a need to keep track of where your kids are on-board world’s largest liner.

The cruise liner has made it mandatory that every kid between the age group of three to eleven year old must wear the GPS enabled wristband. This will help the parents to know where the kids are on ship’s 16 decks. This also makes ship staff’s task much easier now when they don;t have to run around locating naughty children around the deck.

Oasis of the Seas can carry up to 6,300 passengers and weighs more than 225,000 tons.

This GPS tracking wristband costs $17.50 (£12) to hire for the duration of a cruise. The wristband can only be used on the ship and not for ship to shore calls.

The SMS implementation  allows easy messaging to and from dispatch, as well as ‘SMS Notes’ which allow drivers to comment on their activity for inclusion in a stop report. Unlike email-based text messaging and alerts, customers do not need to know the wireless carrier for each cell phone number, which is impractical for large implementations.

Apart from the above functions this service lets you see the movement of a vehicle in real-time on any of the advance GPRS enabled phone, such as , Blackberry or Iphone. GPS Insight works in partnership with Cellit, which is a mobile service provider and is responsible for the SMS side of operations.
